The work is signed V Ferguson-Louw in lower left corner. The work is unframed.
Violet Ferguson Louw is a South African artist who travelled extensively in South Africa and South West Africa (today Namibia). She is best known for her still life and landscape paintings. She was born in 1892 and grew up on the family farm near Prieska. Violet sudied at the Hugenot Seminary in Wellington from 1989. After her marriage to a Scot, Reginald Ferguson, she began to paint under the name Violet Ferguson Louw. She has a son and two daughters. Although she later divorced, she retained her husband's name. She died in 1973 and the inscription on her tombstone reads: "Nature I loved, next to nature art".

Condition - The work is in an excellent condition.
Restoration work completed - The work, which was glued to an acidic backing board, was removed. The work was chemically deacidified and cleaned, to remove all dirt and staining. This restored the paper back to its original condition, and enhancing the pigment.
